Volunteer Position Description
Description & Expectations:
- Provide support, friendship and encouragement to an isolated parent
- Provide role modeling to enhance parenting and child management skills
- Help reduce the isolation felt by parent by connecting them to community resources
- Meet with the parent(s) on a regular weekly basis
- Make contact with the worker(s) as required
Supervised By:
Qualifications Required:
- Good interpersonal skills, effective listener
- Resourcefulness and a good understanding of available community resources
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- An understanding of anti-oppression practices and willingness to embrace these practices
- Reliability
Time Required:
- 2 – 3 hours weekly
- Minimum one year commitment
Training Provided:
- Basic Orientation – mandatory
- Annual workshop
- Support and training meetings
